Rochelle Cinco de Mayo Event Seeks Volunteers and Vendors

ROCHELLE – The annual Cinco de Mayo celebration is planned in Rochelle and organizers are asking for volunteers, vendors, and donations to help support the event. The celebration will take place Saturday, May 2 from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m. in the Rochelle Rec Center parking lot due to ongoing downtown construction. Rochelle Councilwoman Rosaelia Arteaga said the event has been held in the community for more than a decade and will include live music, a mechanical bull, a kid zone, and craft vendors. Non-profit organizations can sign up through the end of April at no cost. Arteaga said the event is meant for the entire community and highlighted its importance.

“I think that it’s important for the Hispanic community, but also everybody. I think Cinco de Mayo is well known throughout the United States and everybody is excited to get together to celebrate. We’re celebrating both Mexico and the United States and we want everybody to come out and have fun. I do think that because it’s the first event here in Rochelle, we kind of welcome everybody to come out and hopefully enjoy some good weather and some food and listen to some music and just have fun,” Arteaga said.

Organizers said anyone interested in participating can contact Arteaga for more information.
