DeKalb County Tourism Bureau Highlights Record Economic Impact

DEKALB – The DeKalb County Convention and Visitors Bureau is celebrating its long standing status as a state certified organization with the addition of a new logo to its website. Executive Director Cortney Strohacker reports that tourism generated a record $124 million for the local economy in 2024 while supporting more than 700 jobs. This certification from the Illinois Destinations Association allows the bureau to access special funding and marketing resources to attract travelers from outside the region. Key events like the Sandwich Fair and NIU activities help bring in visitors who spend money at local hotels and restaurants. These visitor dollars generate $3 million in local tax revenue which helps fund government services and lowers the tax burden for residents. The bureau acts as a primary contact for event planners and sports directors to help them find the best locations and services within the county.
