ROCKFORD – The Rock River Valley Blood Center is calling on all eligible donors to give blood before the Fourth of July weekend, as local hospitals face a critical shortage. The center typically loses about 150 units of blood during the holiday closure, a time when trauma-related demand often rises. Blood collected now will help ensure life-saving care is available when needed, as donations have a 42-day shelf life. Donors can visit any of the three donor centers in Rockford or Freeport, attend a mobile drive, or schedule an appointment online or by phone. From now to July 3rd and on July 5th, donors will receive a free Bundtlet, a 40-ounce thermal mug, and a chance to win Hurricane Harbor tickets.
