WASHINGTON D.C. — Missouri Senator Josh Hawley is calling on the Department of Energy to cancel a multi-billion-dollar loan for the Grain Belt Express transmission project. The project is expected to begin construction in 2026 and would carry wind energy through Missouri, Illinois, Kansas and Indiana. In a letter to Energy Secretary Chris Wright, Hawley argued the project doesn’t have an economic justification and threatens Missouri farmland. He called for the cancellation of a conditional four-point-nine-billion-dollar loan the department has issued for the project.
