ROCKFORD – A Rockford man received a 14-month federal prison sentence after admitting to making false statements while buying ten firearms for local gang associates. Federal authorities said 24-year-old Cleshon Phipps bought the handguns between January 2023 and September 2024 by falsely claiming on paperwork that he was the actual buyer. A United States District Judge handed down the sentence after Phipps pleaded guilty to purchasing the weapons for individuals who were legally prohibited from buying them.
