DeKalb and Ogle County to Hold 9/11 Remembrance Ceremonies

DEKALB — Local communities will mark the 25th anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks with remembrance ceremonies Friday. The DeKalb Fire Department will hold a Patriot Day ceremony at 8 a.m. at Fire Station No. 4, 1130 S. Malta Road, honoring those who died and the first responders who served. Byron High School will host an Ogle County 9/11 Memorial 25th Anniversary School Assembly at 9:20 a.m. in the high school gymnasium, with doors opening at 9 a.m. The assembly will be presented by Ogle County Sheriff’s Chaplain and Peer Support Leader Gary Cortese and the Ogle County Sheriff’s Peer Support Team. The program will honor victims, first responders and military personnel while providing an opportunity for students and community members to learn about the events of Sept. 11, 2001. Seating at the Byron assembly is limited and will be available on a first come, first served basis.
