Rochelle Plans Stop Sign Changes At Four Intersections

ROCHELLE — The Rochelle City Council voted to approve changes to traffic controls at four intersections to improve traffic flow and pedestrian safety. City staff recommend making North 9th Street and 10th Avenue an all way stop because of congestion, particularly before and after school at Tilton Elementary School, where traffic can back up as vehicles drop off and pick up students. The intersection handles an average of about 2,900 vehicles daily on North 9th Street and 2,050 on 10th Avenue. Staff also recommend changing the traffic controls at Joanne Avenue and Westview Drive, 9th Avenue and 10th Street, and Avenue B and South 10th Street from yield signs to stop signs because of visibility concerns, increased traffic, poor compliance and pedestrian safety.
