SPRINGFIELD – With Illinois recording 115 tornadoes this year, the most in the nation for 2025, and communities facing repeated rounds of damaging storms, the Illinois Emergency Management Agency and Office of Homeland Security is urging residents to review disaster plans during National Preparedness Month. Officials said preparation can help reduce losses from tornadoes, straight-line winds, flooding, and other emergencies, and encouraged families to assemble emergency kits, create communication plans, review insurance coverage, and consider pet and digital safety.
