Roundabout at NIU Campus Intersection Completed Before School Year

DEKALB — The roundabout at Normal Road and Lucinda Avenue is now open on schedule ahead of the Northern Illinois University school year, completing a $1.8 million project designed to improve pedestrian and bicycle safety by requiring slower vehicle speeds. The work, which began after NIU’s 2024 graduation and followed the earlier closure of part of Normal Road, was funded through the federal Surface Transportation Urban grant program and carried out by the City of DeKalb with Fehr Graham, the Illinois Department of Transportation and NIU.
