GENEVA – Illinois Treasurer Michael Frerichs has returned a lost Purple Heart medal to the grandson of WWII veteran Edward Gorski Jr., who was wounded in combat while serving in Germany. The medal was found in a safe deposit box turned over to the state in 2003 and is the 14th returned through Operation Purple Heart. Gorski’s grandson, Shawn Gorski, also an Army veteran, accepted the medal during a ceremony at American Legion Post 75 in Geneva.
