ROCKFORD – A Wisconsin man is accused of shooting a K9 officer in Rockford. Police say Vernon Frills fled from his vehicle during a traffic stop Saturday in the one-thousand block of East State Street. As the officer and K9 chased Frills, he fired a gun, hitting the K-9 at least twice. The animal was taken to a local emergency veterinary hospital with injuries to a shoulder and paw, but is expected to fully recover. Frills was arrested on multiple charges, including attempted murder.
