ROCKFORD – A Wisconsin man accused of shooting a K9 officer in Rockford this past weekend will remain in custody. Vernon Frills was denied pretrial release after refusing to appear in court Monday. Police say Frills fled from his vehicle during a traffic stop Saturday in the one-thousand block of East State Street. As the officer and K9 chased Frills, he fired a gun, hitting the K-9 at least twice. The animal suffered injuries to a shoulder and paw, but is expected to fully recover. Frills was arrested on multiple charges, including attempted murder.
