ROCKFALLS — The Whiteside County Health Department has been awarded $806,080 through a $50 million state grant program designed to improve community health facilities and expand access to care. The funding is part of the Rebuild Illinois capital program and was awarded to 21 community health organizations across the state. The Whiteside County Health Department was the only recipient listed from Whiteside County and will receive $806,080 for capital improvements. The Community Health Center Construction Grant Program provides funding to Federally Qualified Health Centers and similar organizations for projects that can renovate healthcare facilities, increase capacity and expand services, particularly in underserved and rural communities. The grants were awarded through a merit based review process, and recipients must enter into agreements with the Illinois Capital Development Board outlining project responsibilities. The maximum grant period is five years, with projects required to be operational by the end of the grant term.
