DEKALB — The Board of Directors of Voluntary Action Center of Northern Illinois has appointed Rick Burchell as the organization’s next executive director. Burchell will begin his new role on July 1 and will oversee operations in DeKalb, Kendall, LaSalle, Bureau, and Putnam counties. He succeeds Nate Kloster, who announced plans to retire this summer after informing the board of his decision in September 2025. Burchell previously served as principal of Kaneland Middle School for eight years and director of the Fox Valley Career Center for 14 years. Board President Joel Maurer said Burchell’s leadership experience, community connections, and vision will help build on the organization’s legacy of service. Kloster will remain with the organization through the end of July to assist with the transition. Voluntary Action Center provides transportation and nutrition services aimed at promoting dignity, health, self sufficiency, and reducing social isolation.
