Two Hospitalized After Four-Vehicle Crash on Route 64

SYCAMORE – A four-vehicle crash Thursday around 4 PM near Sycamore sent two people to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. According to the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office, a 55-year-old Elgin man driving an SUV with a travel trailer allegedly failed to reduce speed while heading westbound on State Route 64, triggering a chain reaction near the intersection with Motel Road. A 43-year-old Sycamore woman in an SUV attempted to avoid a collision but was reportedly hit by an eastbound pickup driven by a 44-year-old man from DeKalb, pushing her vehicle into a vehicle driven by a 27-year-old Pingree Grove man. The Elgin man’s vehicle rolled into a ditch and struck a utility pole. Both he and the Sycamore woman were hospitalized. Two juvenile passengers in separate vehicles were unhurt. The Elgin man was cited for failure to reduce speed.
