Time to Replace Outdated Smoke & CO Alarms With Time Change

SPRINGFIELD – The Office of the Illinois State Fire Marshal urges residents to test, and replace outdated smoke and CO alarms with new 10-year sealed battery alarms as Daylight Saving Time begins, as they reduce the risk of dying in a home fire. An Illinois law requires ten-year sealed smoke alarms in homes built before 1988. Three out of every five home fire deaths in the U.S. occurs in homes without working smoke alarms. The clocks move forward one hour on Sunday morning.
