ROCHELLE — In honor of Memorial Day, the Flagg Township Museum will host “The Story of W.A.S.P.” on Sunday, May 24 at 1 p.m., highlighting the history of the Women’s Ambulance Safety Patrol. Presented by local historian Mary Rose Fillip, the program explores the Rockford-founded organization created in 1940 as one of the nation’s first women’s ambulance programs and its role in early civil defense and emergency preparedness. Museum officials said the event will use archival research and historical records to share the group’s largely forgotten legacy and contributions to women’s roles in public safety.
