SPRINGFIELD – The Illinois Commerce Commission urges residents statewide to participate in Fix a Leak Week to check household plumbing and irrigation systems for leaks, aiming to conserve water and save money. Leaks waste about 1 trillion gallons of water annually in the U.S., but simple fixes can help consumers. An average American household loses over 10,000 gallons of water yearly from leaks. Residents should monitor water bills, check water meters, and use food coloring in toilets to detect leaks. Additionally, replacing old toilet flappers, ensuring tight connections for shower heads, and replacing worn-out faucet washers and gaskets can also help.
