Spongy Moth Spray Planned for Northern Illinois in June

OREGON – The Illinois Department of Agriculture, working with the U.S. Forest Service’s Slow the Spread Program, plans to spray two areas in northern Illinois this month to control the invasive spongy moth (Lymantria dispar). Aerial treatment using SPLAT GM-Organic, a biodegradable pheromone-based product, will be applied by aircraft over 232 acres near Oregon and 1,647 acres in Lowden Miller State Forest. The product disrupts the moth’s mating cycle without harming people, animals, or the environment. Weather conditions will determine exact spray dates.
