SPRINGFIELD — The possibility of the early release of Sean Grayson is getting a reaction from the family of Sonya Massey. Grayson, a former Sangamon County Sheriff’s deputy, was sentenced to 20 years for the murder of Sonya Massey in her Springfield home in July of 2024. Now just six months into his sentence, the 32-year-old Grayson is requesting an early release due to medical reasons. The joint statement from Massey’s family and their representation strongly urges the Illinois Prison Review Board “to decline… Grayson’s request” when the group next meets at the end of this month.
