FREEPORT – State Senator Andrew Chesney joined Republicans in the Illinois Senate and House last week in sending a letter to the Illinois High School Association requesting clarification on its policies regarding the participation of biological males in women’s high school sports. The lawmakers are seeking assurance that the IHSA will comply with recent federal directives, which prohibit males from competing in women’s sports based on gender identity. The letter emphasizes concerns over fairness and safety in women’s athletics, citing federal guidelines that protect single-sex sports for female athletes.
