ROCKFORD – A 28-year-old Rockford police officer faces battery charges. Michael Rhein was arrested Tuesday after being accused of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and domestic battery. Further details haven’t been released. Rhein was previously identified as the officer who fired three shots in the 2023 shooting death of Patrick Kirby. He was cleared of any wrongdoing in the incident.
