Rockford Man Charged After Striking Pedestrian in Ogle County

OREGON — A 30-year-old Rockford man faces felony charges after Ogle County deputies said he struck a pedestrian and left the scene early Thursday morning. Deputies responded around 5 a.m. to a welfare check in the 10900 block of Illinois Route 2 North, where a 66-year-old Rockford man was found lying in a ditch. Investigators determined the man had been hit by a passing vehicle that left the scene. Authorities later located the vehicle in Sterling and arrested Austyn W. Summers of Rockford. Summers was charged with failure to report a personal injury accident and leaving the scene of an accident involving personal injury, both Class 4 felonies, along with failing to reduce speed to avoid an accident. He was taken to the Ogle County Jail and later released on a notice to appear. The victim was transferred from Javon Bea Hospital to a hospital in Madison with serious injuries.
