Rochelle Works With State to Identify Lead, Galvanized Water Lines

ROCHELLE — Rochelle Municipal Utilities Water Department is working with the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency to locate and replace old water service lines that may contain lead or galvanized steel. Property owners who received a letter have been identified as having or possibly having these types of lines, which affect about 7% of Rochelle’s system. The city is responsible for creating a full inventory, notifying residents, developing a replacement plan, and reporting progress annually. This effort supports safe drinking water and future replacement work. Residents are encouraged to read the letter, watch for updates, and contact the department with questions.
