Rochelle Middle School Considers Modified Grading System

ROCHELLE – Rochelle Middle School administrators presented a recommendation to transition from standards based grading to a modified grading system that includes traditional letter grades, citing staff feedback, student engagement concerns, and preparation for high school, with Superintendent Jason Harper asking the board to take additional time to review the proposal before a possible vote next month.

“Teachers raised some concerns about the effectiveness of standards based reporting at the middle school level. Over time, they’re noticing that it’s not as effective as they had hoped,” Principal Katie Smith said.
