ROCKFORD — An Illinois State Police investigation has led to charges against a Rochelle man in connection with a crash that happened last year in Winnebago County. Illinois State Police said special agents with the Division of Criminal Investigation Zone 2 took 30-year-old Evan M. White of Rochelle into custody Tuesday on one count of obstruction of justice, a Class 4 felony, and one count of leaving the scene of a property damage crash, a Class A misdemeanor. The charges stem from an October 2025, crash near I-39 and Baxter Road where a vehicle was left at the scene. Investigators said White was determined to have been driving the vehicle and left before troopers arrived. In August 2023, White, a former Ogle County deputy, was accused of crashing into a pole in Rochelle, leaving the scene on foot and being under the influence of alcohol before he was arrested. He later pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of reckless driving, while the original DUI, leaving the scene and improper lane usage charges were dismissed under a plea agreement.
