Rochelle High School, Park District Approve 50 Year Agreement for New Fieldhouse

ROCHELLE — The Flagg-Rochelle Community Park District and Rochelle Township High School have approved a 50 year agreement to jointly develop and use a new indoor competition center on park district property near Jones Road and 8th Street. The project has an estimated budget of $9 million. The park district will own, operate, maintain and schedule the facility, while the school district will receive priority access during the school year, generally from 3 to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. That priority access will also extend to athletic programs from Rochelle Elementary School District 231.

The facility will also be available for park district programs, community events and third party rentals outside the school district’s priority hours. The school district will provide the community with nonexclusive access to four west tennis courts at the high school when they are not being used for school events or practices. The park district also approved a $67,285 Phase 1 design agreement with Cord Construction after the company received the highest score during a review of three firms. The work will include finalizing concept drawings and confirming the project’s final budget. Cord Construction proposed a construction timeline of about eight months, with construction potentially beginning in 2027.
