ROCHELLE – The Rochelle City Council is expected to consider a resolution tonight that would amend the city’s agreement with the Flagg Rochelle Park District regarding joint ownership and operation of the golf course. The proposed amendment would prevent the city from building a sidewalk or shared-use path on golf course property for the next five years, though construction would still be allowed along the public right-of-way. The Park District raised concerns about liability related to a path on the course itself, despite the city’s insurance provider confirming no additional risk if the path is properly sized and maintained. The city has previously explored building a path along Route 251 to improve safety for pedestrians and cyclists and will continue to work with IDOT on alternatives.
