ROCHELLE – The City of Rochelle has opened bids for the 2025 Steward Road Multi-Use Path project, designed to extend the path from Caron Court to the Ritchie/Steward Road intersection. The project includes constructing a new asphalt path, tree and landscaping removal and replacement, and the installation of new culverts, as well as grading and ditch shaping. Bids were opened on April 3, 2025, with Bruns Construction submitting the lowest bid of $196,509.20, approximately 7% lower than the engineer’s estimate. The project, funded through the CIP fund, is expected to be completed by September 2025. The City recommends awarding the contract to Bruns Construction and authorizing up to $20,000 for additional improvements to nearby infrastructure.
Rochelle City Engineer Sam Tesreau said this finishes up an agreement from a long time ago.
“So about a decade ago, we had a developer’s agreement with Prologis, and that was part of the overall project, was to build this path together with the city of Rochelle,” he said. “The path will connect up to an existing path at Ritchie Road today, and it will go from Caron Court to Ritchie Road.”
