Rochelle Approves Purchase of New Street Sweeper

ROCHELLE – The Rochelle City Council has approved a resolution to trade in the 2015 Elgin Pelican street sweeper for a new Schwarze A9 Monsoon street sweeper. The new sweeper uses regenerative air technology, which improves cleaning efficiency and reduces maintenance costs. Tim Isley, Superintendent of Public Works & Cemetery said it will be a significant upgrade.

“This isn’t like our current street sweeper which is a three-wheeled machine. This is actually mounted on a truck chassis and the debris hopper is more than twice the size of our current one so that’ll allow us to actually be out sweeping the roads more,” he said.

The new machine will also be able to perform additional tasks, like hydro excavating and vacuuming stormwater inlets, which the current sweeper cannot do.

“During the summertime when there’s not as much out we could probably go all day without even having to come back and dump.”

The total cost for the new sweeper is $322,718, which includes a $45,000 trade-in offer.
