Raoul Sues Trump Administration Over Unemployment Funding Cuts

CHICAGO – Illinois Attorney General Kwame Raoul and a coalition of 13 other states are suing the Trump administration over the termination of federal funding for unemployment system improvements. The lawsuit challenges the U.S. Department of Labor’s decision to cut more than $45 million in remaining grants nationwide. Illinois lost more than $15 million intended to improve its unemployment claims process, modernize online services and strengthen fraud prevention. Raoul says the funding cuts violated federal grant agreements and forced the state to leave some projects unfinished or pay for them with other state funds.
