Raoul Joins Challenge To Federal No-Bond Immigration Detention Policy

CHICAGO — Illinois Attorney General Kwame Raoul has joined a coalition of 20 attorneys general in filing a court brief opposing a new federal policy that mandates indefinite detention of undocumented immigrants without the chance for a bond hearing. The coalition argues the policy violates due process, disrupts families and communities, harms state economies, and imposes unnecessary costs on taxpayers by eliminating the long-standing right of immigrants in removal proceedings to request bond while their cases are pending.
