Raoul Backs Legal Challenge to End of Protected Status for Haitians

CHICAGO — Illinois Attorney General Kwame Raoul joined 18 other attorneys general in filing a court brief opposing the Trump administration’s decision to end Temporary Protected Status for Haitians ahead of schedule. The brief, submitted in Haitian Evangelical Clergy Association v. Trump, urges a New York federal court to block the termination, arguing it would harm families, threaten deportations, disrupt state economies, raise health care costs, and weaken public safety. The program, established in 1990, allows nationals from crisis-affected countries to legally live and work in the U.S. temporarily.
