(Chicago, IL) — Corey Seager and the Texas Rangers downed the Chicago Cubs 6-2 to avoid a three-game sweep at Wrigley Field. Seager hit a solo homer in the first inning and another in the seventh to help Texas snap a two-game losing skid. Jonah Heim went 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBI.
Starting pitcher Tyler Mahle earned his second win after seven strong innings of work. The Rangers are now 9-and-4.
Michael Busch and Seiya Suzuki each had an RBI in the setback. Starting pitcher Shota Imanaga was charged with the loss as the Cubs fell to 9-and-6.
The Cubs will be without one of their best starting pitchers. Justin Steele has been placed on the 15-day disabled list with elbow tendinitis.
The lefthander was sidelined last September for more than two weeks with the same issue. There is no word on who will replace Steele in the starting rotation.
