CHICAGO — A bill designed to crack down on squatters is advancing out of the Illinois Senate. State Senator Lekesia Collins authored the legislation and says the proposed measure now heads to the House for review. The legislator says the bill will make it easier for police officers to remove trespassers from someone’s home. Collins adds that the bill would bypass a long legal eviction process and give property owners the protection they deserve. State Representative La Shawn Hood is joining forces with Senator Collins to form a squatters task force. The group would bring landlords, tenants, and real estate professionals together to discuss squatting cases and develop solutions.
