CHICAGO – Gov. JB Pritzker has issued a disaster proclamation and signed an executive order providing temporary relief on diesel fuel costs for Illinois farmers during the fall harvest. The order directs the Illinois Department of Revenue and Illinois State Police not to impose state penalties when dyed diesel fuel from bulk storage is used on Illinois highways and state roads for farming purposes through Dec. 31. The state will provide guidance on qualifying uses and required documentation. The disaster proclamation declares all 102 Illinois counties disaster areas for 30 days and gives state agencies additional authority to respond to diesel shortages and higher fuel costs. The Illinois Department of Transportation will also consider extending the Illinois Harvest Permit program into 2027 if fuel shortages and higher costs continue.
