Polo Police Department Gives Students First Ride In New Community Humvee

POLO — Polo schoolchildren got a special ride to school Wednesday morning in the city’s newly acquired Humvee after a local fundraising raffle tied to the Centennial Parent Organization Fun Fair. The ride was offered as a silent auction item during the fundraiser, with the winning family selecting the date for the experience, according to the Polo Police Department. Officials said the Humvee was obtained at no cost through the Department of Defense surplus property program and will be used for community events, parades, fundraisers, and ceremonies rather than patrol duties. The department said the outing marked the vehicle’s first official community use and highlighted cooperation between families, schools, and local organizations. Police said the Humvee will continue to appear at upcoming community celebrations and parades throughout the year.
