SYCAMORE – Law enforcement agencies are warning the public about a phone scam where callers pose as police officers claiming the recipient missed jury duty and must pay a fine to avoid arrest. The scammers often use spoofed phone numbers that appear to match local law enforcement or court offices and may use personal information to sound convincing. Victims are instructed to pay using gift cards, cryptocurrency or other unusual methods. Authorities emphasize that no legitimate agency will demand payment over the phone or request gift cards. Anyone receiving such a call is urged to hang up and contact their local police department directly.
