OREGON – The Oregon Park District began construction Monday at Park East, starting with the removal of select trees to prepare for upgrades that include an ADA-accessible trail connection and a new playground. Some trees are being taken down due to disease or broken trunks. As part of the project, the district will plant 40 new trees, 24 shrubs, and 60 perennial plants to enhance the park’s natural landscape. The $1.2 million dollar renovation will be paid in part by the Illinois Department of Natural Resources, who awarded the improvements $600,000.
