Park District Moves Forward with Redevelopment of Helms North Complex

ROCHELLE – The Flagg-Rochelle Community Park District Board announced on Monday that it is moving forward with plans to redevelop the former high school athletic complex. Over the past two years, the district gathered input from the community through surveys and meetings, exploring ideas for recreational spaces. Executive Director Jackee Ohlinger said the next step is to find partners to help bring those ideas to life at Helms North.

“So we’re looking to post the request for qualifications as soon as the end of the month,” she said. “And we should have those back to us by early summer. And to be able to re-send out the information to the community by late summer, early fall.”

The district is working to ensure that future development remains financially feasible and aligned with long-term community needs. Although a grant application for improvements was denied last year, the district plans to continue maintaining and upgrading the facilities.
