Oregon Residents Learn of Sustainability at Lunch N’ Learn

OREGON – The Oregon Area Chamber of Commerce hosted a special Lunch N’ Learn on sustainability efforts on Monday at the Coliseum Museum of Art, Antiques & Americana. The free event featured expert speakers who gave information on energy efficiency and programs to help offset sustainability costs.

Darin DeHaan, City Manager of Oregon, recognized members of the Oregon Sustainability Committee, who have been working with various stakeholders to provide opportunities to reduce energy use in homes and businesses.  He said that being known for sustainability is something that can help drive business and residents to the area.

Chance D. Munroe. Executive Director of the Oregon Area Chamber of Commerce, was thrilled with the turnout.

“So we had about 40 people here today for this sustainability lunch and learn and went over some good rebates with NICOR and ComEd, so I’m hoping people leave here with something that they can take home either to their private residence or to their business to get on those savings,” said Munroe Monday.

Denard Bell with Commonwealth Edison presented their rebates offers on specific electric vehicles and related infrastructure, including rebates for business and fleet vehicles.

Kevin Gadzala, Regional Manager of Community Affairs at Nicor, addressed the crowd about the company’s plan to reach net zero emissions by 2050 using various means, including ‘Total Green’, where they integrate gas that is produced at area landfills.

Gadzala also mentioned how Nicor is working on pipeline modernization. He noted that older pipes can leak natural gas, even in small amounts, and that the company has already updated 10% of their infrastructure. Some of the benefits that individual homeowners can receive from the company include rebates on more efficient appliances and helping implement water saving methods and home weatherization.
