Oregon High School Expands Mini-Food Centers to Address Local Food Insecurity

OREGON – Oregon High School is continuing its efforts to combat food insecurity by constructing two additional mini-food centers with support from an ACTion grant received by the Ogle County Health Department in 2023. Building on the success of four units placed in Ogle, Carroll, Lee, and Whiteside counties last year, students and faculty, led by woodshop teacher Mr. Seth McMillian, began work on the first new unit at the Dixon Public Library last week. A second unit will be installed at the Creston Fire Station this week. The mini-food centers, which will be stocked with fresh produce from the Sauk Valley Food Bank, hope to make healthy food more accessible to local communities.
