OREGON – The number of recent arrests for sex crimes involving children in the area has seen an uptick, but according to Ogle County Sheriff Brian VanVickle, they are unrelated. He emphasized that such investigations are often lengthy, taking months to bring to an arrest. VanVickle said that the access to illicit materials is easier than ever.
“There’s no shortage of that,” he said. “Unfortunately, not only here in the county, but across, you know, the country with the way the internet works, it’s right there at their fingertips.
For residents who suspect child abuse or child pornography, VanVickle encouraged them to contact the sheriff’s office. The department can help direct individuals to the appropriate authorities to ensure proper investigation and handling of the cases.
