Norovirus Cases Rising Nationwide

ROCKFORD — Norovirus cases are spiking across the country and are considered high nationwide. The virus, also called winter vomiting disease, is highly contagious and spreads through close contact, contaminated surfaces, and food or drinks. Symptoms include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, stomach pain, headache, fever, and body aches. Norovirus can survive hot and cold temperatures, and hand sanitizer does not kill it. Health officials advise washing hands with soap and water, avoiding contact with others when sick, not preparing food for at least two days after symptoms end, and staying away from caring for others.
