DEKALB – A portion of Normal Road in DeKalb will be closed starting this week as part of a pedestrian safety project near Mitchell Elementary School. The closure will affect Normal Road between Edgebrook Drive and Ridge Drive, where a median and new crosswalks will be added to improve safety for students walking to and from the school. Normal Road between West Hillcrest Drive and Ridge Drive will remain open to local traffic only. Traffic will be detoured to Blackhawk Road, and DeKalb Public Transit will implement temporary bus detours. The project is expected to finish in two to three weeks, with the road reopening before the start of a roundabout project at Normal Road and Lucinda Avenue.
