The NIU Huskies won their opener on Friday at the NCAA Tallahassee Baseball Regional as they upset Coastal Carolina 12-10.
NIU will play St. John’s later today after they upset Florida State 6-5 in the double elimination regional.
NIU trailed 4-0 after 2 innings. They won the game with 8 runs in the 4th inning.
The Huskies were led by Nolan Sandee with a double, single and 4 RBI along with Cole Smith who had a triple, double and an RBI and Caden Robertson who had a single and 3 RBI.
Coastal Carolina made things interesting in the bottom of the 9th inning with a 3-run home run. The game came to an end with a line drive being caught by NIU with a runner a first base.
The Huskies are now (36-17) for the season. The 36 wins is a school record.
It is NIU’s first appearance in the NCAA Baseball Championship since 1972.
Coastal Carolina is now (37-22).
