Mendota Receives Nearly $2 Million for Downtown Redevelopment

MENDOTA — Mendota has been awarded $1,988,625 through the Rebuild Illinois Downtowns and Main Streets program to redevelop a downtown building damaged by a 2022 fire. The project at 704 Illinois Avenue will transform the city-owned space into a multi-purpose facility with areas for co-working, events, and retail, supporting both local businesses and remote workers. The building sits within a block impacted by a major fire and is expected to play a key role in revitalizing Mendota’s downtown. Spring Valley will also benefit from state funding, receiving $695,430 to enhance the streetscape along St. Paul Street.
