McCombie’s Chronic Wasting Disease Bills Head to Governor’s Desk

SPRINGFIELD  — Two bills sponsored by House Minority Leader Tony McCombie to address Chronic Wasting Disease in Illinois deer populations are headed to the governor’s desk after unanimous approval in the Senate. House Bill 2339 would phase out the use of sharpshooting in counties without a confirmed CWD case in three years, while House Bill 2340 lowers the land ownership requirement for deer management permits from 40 to 20 acres in counties identified with CWD. The measures respond to concerns from northern Illinois residents over the impact of state-led disease control efforts.
