McCombie Moves Bill to Protect Victims of Sexual Assault

SPRINGFIELD  – Illinois House Republican Leader Tony McCombie passed legislation in the Illinois House Insurance Committee to prohibit co-pays for sexual assault exams. McCombie presented the measure, calling it a commonsense bill to further protect sexual assault victims.

“This certainly can happen,” McCombie said. “How often it happens we don’t know, but it was certainly something that we wanted to make sure to put clarifying language in so that it didn’t happen. We don’t want to traumatize another victim for the services for going to the hospital and having a co-pay deductible for your sexual assault treatments.”

The piece of legislation has gained bipartisan support, including the backing of Illinois House Speaker Emanuel “Chris” Welch, and will now move forward in the Illinois House for further confirmation.
