March is Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month

SPRINGFIELD – The Illinois Department of Public Health wants to urge all residents during Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month that early screenings can save lives. Colorectal Cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death in the US, but has a five-year survival rate of around 90% when detected early but drops to 10% when not detected promptly. In Illinois, over 2,100 deaths were attributed to the illness in 2023. Patients should consult with their healthcare provider to determine what testing course of action they should take.
